Bring on the Psychobitch (Some Girls Do It #3) ~ May Sage

                                                    the psychobitch

In my life, or shall I say it better “my book reading,” there are only a few things that will pull me right off to a book. The cover, if displayed to show the cover or if I am looking at it online. The author, because even I have my fav’s. An interesting or funny title, because it takes a little brilliance to choose it and hold on to it … or live with it. Winking smile

Bring on the Psychobitch (different link than that of book cover) … you know that had to take some convincing to be kept. But I saw the title, the cover is not what pulled me in, but the description. I had to read a book where the main character called herself that with PRIDE. Hey, we all have those points where we blow it off name calling but very few of us stand up & take those names with the pride this author created in  her main character. (Guessing that she has been there & prob does that!)

Ms. Sage not only give you present but the past as well to create a character that you will either love or despise. Me, I rather like this character but then I like strong-will individuals. Sure anyone can try to create that, but if you fail … you fail miserable with a character that most bookaholics want to throttle. But if you succeed, like Ms. Safe did here, then you end up with a story that makes the reader want more. Keep them reading what you do write, and coming back for more.

Cupid Stupid: Return to Cupid, Texas #1 ~ Sylvia McDaniel

                                                        stupid cupid

I have to give a Ms. McDaniel a round of apologize on this story. The title is what pulled me into reading the book, but thankfully it had some type of cover or I would have blown it off.
I am sorry to all the authors out there … but I have this HUGE problem … if there is NO cover, I just cannot pull myself into reading the book or eBook. Yes, that is horrid for a bookaholic to state, but I have tried in the past, only to find the books/eBooks not worth the time. So, from those experiences … well, that is why I just find myself not reading the books, I have tried but I just cannot.

The cover is typical of a romance-type novel … interesting background with some appealing individual on the front. Suppose to pull your eye to the cover. But to be honest, with a title like Cupid Stupid, you could have ditched the individual!!!
I have not bothered to see if there is truly a Cupid Texas, but the detail that Ms. McDaniel goes into writing about this town … there really doesn’t need to be. Because you can picture what she is describing without researching it. Then she puts all that into the tale & the characters, which pull you in & make you want to read to the end.

Cupid Texas has a Cupid Statue with an interesting rumor. If you dance NAKED (oh the poor fool who does LOL) around the statue you will find true love. Hmmm, if this town exists I feel for the local law enforcement … well, may not LOL.
3 life times friends have finally all moved back to their sweet but interesting home town. And on one night of being a little blitzed on wine (can people really get drunk on wine? I can’t stand it unless it’s the German Hot Wine), decide to dance around Cupid to find true love. Well, actually two of them want that but the 3rd has been burnt to a crisp. Therefore wanting NOTHING to do with love or relationships.
Wanna guess which character starts off this series?? Yep, Miss I-don’t-want-a-relationship-or-love but the catch is with the individual who is chasing her down … one of her best friends EX’s. Oh, let’s not forget he is the town SHERRIFF. I about died when I read that little bit, sure it’s one thing to be chased by the law if you broke it. But it’s a complete different story when they want to see if you are “the one.”

I read this book, because it had an interesting title. I love books like that. But now I curious as to how Ms. McDaniel’s gonna pull of the other two love takes. Both of which have interesting tales behind them.
Had the title not drawn me in, I would not have more books to add to my never ending list of reads. But when you create a title like this, it is calling “read me, read me.” Until you give up and start with page 1.

A Duke by December (A Year W/Out the Duke #5) ~ Sabrina Darby

duke by dec

Every so often I find historical romances. The title interests me, or in this case the series, and I start reading. I must say that I am pretty impressed that they were able to put together this series with a variety of authors.

Growing up dirt poor can really mess some individuals up. But imagine that the girl you “love” is at a higher social level than you. What would you do when you were told ‘no’ to the request to marry her & then discover she was to be married to someone from the same social level as her family?
For Nathaniel Hughes the answer is simple, leave for America. Create your own future just to show that fool that you are far better than they see you from the tips of their noses. Which is exactly what the new heir of the Beckworth estate has done for himself. Only now, he has to head back to merry ol’ England to become the Duke of Beckworth.
Yes, he could turn it down. But this is a man of honor, who accepts the challenge. Bringing along his secretary Elizabeth Smith & her brother.

Ms. Smith will follow Mr. Hughes around the world. He saved them in the Arkansas Territory. He then taught her, and eventually she became his secretary. Helping with with all business matters … which is some what OK in America but not exactly something the approve of in England.

In this story, you have a unique look on one authors view of how America use to be. It’s shocking, in some ways. But Ms. Darby proved that what she started in a novel. I am highly impressed with how she created this story, involving much more than two simple individuals. She involves a lot more.

As for the series … yes, I had to read them all. “Bloody Hell” how was I to find out what happened to all the extra characters in the book. (Just keep reading the letters from the head housekeeper & lawyer … they are interesting & would have made a GREAT story to go with this series!)

An Affair in Autumn (A Year W/Out the Duke #4; House of Trent #3.5) ~ Jennifer Haymore

affair in autumn

Every so often I find historical romances. The title interests me, or in this case the series, and I start reading. I must say that I am pretty impressed that they were able to put together this series with a variety of authors.

Two friends, who had an bitter falling out, are in search of the heir of the Beckworth estate. The next duke, who was also one of their best friends grow up. But sadly, until the last moment, Markus Hawkins does not realize that he’s not on this search alone.
Caroline Addison is now a widow. She has decide that she will do what she will with the funds of her estate. She is not rushing into to another marriage, after the horrid one she just went though. The marriage that destroyed her friendship with Mr. Hawkins, and sent their other childhood friend to America.
In this tale, you find that not everything is as it seems. Mrs. Addison has never stood up to Mr. Hawkins, allowing him to believe what he will. But not knowing that the end to their friendship, also caused an issued between him & the heir to the Beckworth estate.
Getting from England to New York, as quickly as they can, but with tense interactions on a ship … well, you can either drowned the other party or Winking smile

Ms. Haymore has created an interesting ocean trip. From major misunderstandings, to violent sea-sickness. That involves storms of all types. You just have to read to the end, because even that puts a smirk on your face.

As for the series … yes, I had to read them all. “Bloody Hell” how was I to find out what happened to all the extra characters in the book. (Just keep reading the letters from the head housekeeper & lawyer … they are interesting & would have made a GREAT story to go with this series!)

Seduced in September (A Year W/Out a Duke #3) ~ Genevieve Turner

Seduced in Sept

Every so often I find historical romances. The title interests me, or in this case the series, and I start reading. I must say that I am pretty impressed that they were able to put together this series with a variety of authors.

Meet Adele Vere, who is the perfect English governess. Or at least that is the front that was raised to show. Well, that is after the death of her mother. She was taken in by a couple, that raised her to be better than what she would have had otherwise (in this time).
Edward Coyne is the stable master. Who, it would seem, is set out to break through the mask Ms. Vere is hiding behind. He thinks that there is more to her than the “proper English governess.”
There is a fire that almost destroys any chance of Mr. Coyne from finding out what is behind that mask. Will they be able to over come this incident? Will Ms. Vere be able to forgive Mr. Coyne’s actions? Much less her own?
There are a lot things that can be told, but if they are … well, I should just tell the entire story. I don’t providing spoilers, they ruin the read.
Ms. Turner has created a tale of two people who have so much to deal with in life. Where they will be in months to come, as well as parts of their pasts. She creates an interesting tale involving some of the staff currently at the Beckworth estate.

As for the series … yes, I had to read them all. “Bloody Hell” how was I to find out what happened to all the extra characters in the book. (Just keep reading the letters from the head housekeeper & lawyer … they are interesting & would have made a GREAT story to go with this series!)

Devil & the Deep (Deep Six #2) ~ Julie Ann Walker

Devil & the Deep

Ms. Walker is one hades of an author. She one minute she might have you 2nd guessing if the character is going to make it out of this current situation alive, then she will have you rolling in laughter … or at least she did in this novel. I am hoping to find the rest of this series as entertaining as I did this book. Plus not only are you dealing with the two main characters, but she adds in a few others that have their own stories beginning.

Seal Team

We have a US Navy SEAL Team, 6 men, that retired. After they lost one of their team members, they decide to honor his death by LIVING. They become the Deep Six Salvage, treasure hunters looking for a sunken Spanish galleon that went down around 500 yrs. ago.

This story is about Bran. A man who swore to his mother that he would NEVER fall in love, because all it brought was pain & misery. Plus he fully believes that he is just as evil & cruel as this father … pity, no one thought to try and correct that until now.
Bran has not problem with “hooking up” but relationships are never going to be in the picture.
hot soldier
Maddy is an oil heiress. She met Bran a few months back when someone tried to kidnap her off her father yacht. Since then, they have been emailing each other & talking … but pretty much haven’t seen each other since the kiss Bran gave her on that yacht (after saving her).

Maddy decides to bring 3 girls on a camping trip to Dry Tortugas, as a surprise for them winning the scholarships offered by her father’s company. Maddy is hoping that Bran will show up, because she will be a simple short boat trip away.
Sadly, for Maddy & those with her, the individuals who tried kidnapping her the 1st time are back. This time with a team of mercenaries to handle the job.

One of my Favorite Parts (31% into the kindle version, I laughed so hard my husband had to use my inhaler on to so I could BREATHE), and it is a DIRECT QUOTE from the book:
”I can make twenty feet no problem,” she asserted. “So let’s do this thing already. This moat is starting to give me the heebie-jeebies. Did y’all know when they used the fort as a prison in the eighteen hundreds, someone kept a ten-foot shark in here?”
He opened his mouth to assure her there were no sharks in the moat now. But before he could say anything, she blinked and made a face. A weird gurgling sounded at the back of her throat.
”What?” he demanded, all his protective instincts jumping to the fore. His M4 was strapped to his back, but his muscles bunched, ready to swing it over his head.
”Something just touched my foot,” she whispered, and a line from that old English rock band sprang to mind: a whiter shade of pale.
That definitely described what had happened to her complexion, even in the semidarkness. Before Bran could tell her it was probably nothing – a fish or an eel or even a piece of seaweed – she was splashing toward him like a lunatic, her eyes wide, mouth contorted in a grimace.
”There it was again!” she croaked, climbing on top of him, her bare feet finding footholds on his knees and hip bones, her hands clawing at his shoulders and head until he was shoved under water.
Now usually, he would welcome a woman’s legs going over his shoulders and her breasts smashing his nose. But not while he was treading water. For a couple of seconds, they sank into the dark void before he had the wherewithal to kick and stroke toward the surface. He came up sputtering and sucking in oxygen that was heavy with the berry-sweet scent of her lotion and the subtler aroma of luscious, warm female.

shark and blood

Sorry, but you know I cannot tell you the rest … it would spoil what happened.

I have to hand it to Ms. Walker for creating a story that keeps pulling you in. Making you want to know what is going on with the main characters, and those surrounding them.

How to Ditch Dead Guys (The Witch’s Handbook #2) ~ Ann M. Noser

how to ditch dead guys

I have to give Ms. Noser credit, I was not completely sure I would like this story. The story did seem interesting but it was book two in this series … and lately picking a book in a series (without reading those prior) tends to make you start looking for the prior books, so you know what is going on. I was rather surprised that I could pick this one & read it without back tracking to prior books. I LOVE series like this, because it means the author (Ms. Noser, in the case) put the back story in the current book!!!
Supernatural happy dance

Emma Roberts is able to call the dead back into a host body. Which allows that dead spirit to accomplish what they need to.
Officer Walker is a homicide detective, he is working on the Smiley Face murder case, which took one of Emma’s friends.

In this tale, Emma learns that the Book of Shadows that she uses is not safe. But it keeps pulling her in, demanding that she use the book. The how & why is answered in this tale, along with explaining how Emma became to be the witch she is.
Sadly, to get to these answers, Emma must loose so much. She will be tortured by the deaths that Officer Walker wants her to help him solve. Her live will be placed in the hands of those she loves, but the problem is will they be able to see what is going on or will it kill Emma? Those who want the power that Emma has, will use what every they can to obtain it & her … because without Emma, there is no power.
Emma will learn more about the Smiley Face murders & the gang involved. She will witness, her friends murder again but with more detail than she did in the prior book.

Sometimes when you bring back the dead, you have to accept what they may do. Every action has it’s one set of results, some are easy to accept but others can destroy your life. These are what Emma must learn, and go though … because when she decided to become the witch she is, that alone has consequences. Pity, that there was no one to show her the ropes!
